For reading we are doing novel study which is when we have a bunch of different activtys to do with a book. I choose the book series I am reading now it's called the( 7 signs series )
It is a very interesting book because things are always happening. The most boring part was at the start of the first book but then is got really good. On the back of each book it say 7 days to save the would 6 days 5 days and so on. On the back of the last book it says. Who will live and who will die, Last day left to save the world. For the next two weeks for writing we are going to be writing a story for Halloween. First we had to choose a photo from this site(https://www.literacyshed.com/spookyinspiration.html) and write a story with something to do to with that photo. I love doing this and I would do it again! :) 
Here is my story and photo I choose -

THe VoIce
Screeching, swings swaying in the wind, I stand and walk towards the old abandoned house. The one all the kids avoid, I hear a voice but I can’t make out the words. I’m at the front door, I feel an urge… I slowly push the door open creak! I walk down the corridor flinching at every little sound. I feel my spine shivering down my back. I feel someone or something breathing down my neck, saying “come come come tonight will be your last”

I slowing turn only my neck. Suddenly the floorboards in front of me creak as if someone was walking on them, quickly I turn my head back. I look around to only see blood dripping from the wall going in between the old wooden planks. I hear the voice again, “come come come tonight will be your last” I run as fast as I can to the room at the end on the left, it the only room with a door that’s not locked. I look into the room to see only a fire that’s burnt out and an old fashioned rocking chair that looks like it might break if anyone were to sit on it. I hear the floorboards creak and the voice “come come come tonight is the last, Goodbye” I turn towards the sound...

This term each Monday Shoshy is going to come in and talk to my class about careers. On Monday this week she came into my class, we all had to got into a circle. In the middle of the circle she put a bowel of different coloured m&ms. Then sh rolled a basketball on the ground to a person. Then that person went into the middle of the circle and got 2 m&ms from the bowl. After that they had to say what colour it was, depending on what colour is was, depending what the question Shoshy asked you.

Yellow - What is your favourite book?
Green - What is your favourite thing about school?
Red - What is your favourite thing to do outside of school?
Orange - You choose.

This week for school we are writing arguments. I decided to write an argument about, should schools have uniforms. 
Here is my argument -


Should schools have uniforms - Argument

I strongly believe that every school should have a set uniform, including shoes. For these three reasons, staying focused on work, kids bullying others and representing their schools.

My first reason is if kids wore muffity and not a uniform they would get distracted, not stay on task with their work and not listen to their teacher. Think about it if you were sitting in class and your teacher is talking about what you are doing in class but you are too busy thinking about what you and everyone else is wearing. These questions rushing through your head like, does my outfit look good, she looks extremely better then her and look at the old, disgusting, ugly shoes he is wearing. Then your hear your teacher say “ any question” and you realise you didn’t hear a thing your teacher said. That would be outrageous!

Did you know over 60% of school bullying is about what clothes and shoes people wear? There are so many ways that people can bully others. Cyber, Physical, Social and Verbal. Any one of these types of bullying can you feel small and trapped, you feel like you can’t speak out and stop the bully and that makes you feel like you are floating in space. It's horrible to think that someone right now is being bullied and feels that, powerless, useless and lost. Most bullying starts from a little thing. For example if your not wearing shoes with braids like Nike or Addias. Bullying is so much worse if it is at a school with no uniform. If there is a uniform you don’t feel singled out, you all look that same no one can bullying about what brand you are wearing or not wearing. Overall bullying in decreased by a lot if the school has a uniform.

For my last reason I believe if you wear a school uniform you feel more proud because you are representing your school. Imagine if you go way on a school sports, camp, maths or choir trip. Wear ever you go people will know what school your from l, they’ll think what a nice, polit, and happy school. If they ever come to live in Greymouth they will remember the nice school and they may decide to buy their children into that school. Many good things can come from wearing a uniform.

In conclusion I believe every school should have a uniform, because of bullying, staying focused and representing their school. I hope after you have read my side of this argument you are on my side.

SHAKE OUT!!!!!

This week on Thursday the whole on New Zealand was doing a shake out. The shake out was a drill to practice what we would do if there was a earthquake, and a tsunami. It would happen on Thursday the 17th of October at 1:30pm. At 1:30 the intacom in my class room said the earthquake had started, we all got under a table closest to us and did the turtle (drop cover and hold).Which is where was face the group and cover our head and neck with our hands. After a minute or so the intacom came over again, we had to get to our save zone as if there was a tsunami. I think is was good to practice so we would know how to react if there was a real earthquake our tsunami.

Wearable Arts

Wearable Arts

Wearable arts is a thing my school does every 2nd year. For this you have to get into group of 2 or 3 people. Then your group has to design and create a outfit that fits into the theme. The theme is West Coast. At the end of the Term there is a show where you present the outfit your group has made.

My group decided to make a outfit based on a fantail.So far my group (Katelynn, Kyra and Me) have cut out our skirt and just need to sew it together. Next time we go to Tech we are going to finish our skirt and top, and start on the tail of our outfit.

This week we are working on a new type of writing. Instructions, so far we have fowled instruction to make a air plane and then had a mini compaction with them. We have also writ in instruction on how we would make a sandwich. Here are mine -


How to make a sandwich

Step 1 Grab 2 slices of white bread.

Step 2 Spread marge on each slice with a knife. 

Step 3 Spread avocado on the bottom slice with a knife

Step 4 Place 4 slices of salami on on top of the avocado

Step 5 add grated cheese on top of the 

Step 6 Place pieces of green lettuce on the cheese salami

Step 7 Spread mayo on the top slice of bread with a knife.

Step 8 Place the top slice of bread on the other slice of bread, have the mayo side of the bread facing down.

Step 9 cut the sandwich in half.

Step 10 eat it!

For the pat few weeks we have been working on argument. This time we got to choose what our argument was going to be. Here is my argument-




Smoking in public places should be banned?





I believe smoking should be banned. There are so many bad things that come with smoking in, first of all smoking it’s good for you, it cost so much and if you smoke in front of kids you could influence them to smoke.




Did you know if you smoke there are many bad things that could happen to you. Smoking can cause fatal diseases such as pneumonia, emphysema and lung cancer. Smoking causes 84% of deaths from lung cancer and 83% of deaths from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). I could make a long list of bad things that come with smoking. 





You could buy a good healthy grocery shop for the week, for the same price of buying smokes for a week. Did you know that the average smoker spends $207.00 a week on smokes. Which would cost approximately $10,800 per year. That is a lot of money just on smokes.




Have you ever thought to yourself If I smoke in front of kids they might want to too. Do you know how many kids smoke behind their parents back because they have seen someone smoke and thought it looked like fun. Think about it do you know those Fun stick snacks. Well kids pretend those are smokers. Teenages are most likely to get infulced to smoke, you will never know if they are just smoking smoke of some sort of drugs. You could save a child's life just by not smoking.




In conclusion I think smoking should be banned, it is so bad for you and it cost so much. You don’t want kids to die from smoking do you? I hope after reading my argument you are on my side to ban smoking.

Availll is a activity that we do for reading. For this activity the Teaches pick a movie for us to watch with subtitles. We have to read the subtitles while we watch the movie. Each day we have a different thing we have to do like. Surprise subtitles, The next word hunt and take a dictionary to the movies. We have just finished watching the movie Hoot. It is a movie about 1 girl and 2 boys trying to save burrowing owls. It was a really good movie to watch. I love doing this activity and I can't wait to see what movie we will do next.

For the past few weeks we have been working on arguments. Last week we had to writ an argument on should animals be kept in zoos.


Should animals be kept in zoos

I believe that animals should not be kept in zoos. First of all, animals are not meant to be kept in captivity, and animals are being forced to be breed. You never know what is happening to the animal when the zoo’s are closed.
There will never ever ever be enough space for animals to live in. Animals are made to run and roam in a big space that will never end. Did you know that if animals are kept in captivity they will die a lot sooner than if they were in the wild.
Yes it is good that some zoos have breeding programs to help endangered animals. I think it is cruel that they make animals breed and then as soon as the animals are born they take it away from their mothers, then put the babies up for show so more people will come and pay to see the baby animal.


Do you love watching animals do cool and fun tricks? What would you say if those animals that you are watching have been abused and starved to make them do those tricks. There are a couple of good zoos, but think about how many zoos there are in the world? Imagine yourself as an animal behind a clear plastic window and watching people pay to come and stare at you all day long.
In conclusion I believe that animals should not be kept in zoos. I hope that after reading my side of the argument that you also believe that animals should not be kept in zoos.

Argument Cell Phone

Argument Cell Phone

For the past 2 weeks we have been working on writing an argument. We are writing arguments on if kids should or shouldn't have a cell phone. I think they should have a cell phone if they are 12 and over. Here is my argument hope you enjoy!! :)

                                                                     Cell Phones

I believe that children over the age of 12 should have a cell phone. Wouldn’t you feel great if it saved a child’s life? A cell phone would be useful because if there was an emergency, your child could use the phone to communicate with others and don’t you think they are mature enough for one.

What if there was an accident? If your child had an accident the most important thing for them to have is a cell phone. Imagine it they have fallen off their bike and broke their leg. Their bike has landed on their leg and they can’t get up!! But it they had a phone they could grab it and ring 111 to get help, but if they didn’t they would be stuck there all night and day!! Maybe never to be seen again…

What would you be able to do without communication! Your child would need their cell phone for communication if they have sports that got canceled and you didn’t know about it, or if there was an emergency and you had to go to the hospital, you would be able to text you child and sort out what they would do. Also they might also need to communicate with family that live faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar away. What would YOU do without communication!! Did you know how many kids get bullied because they don’t have a PHONE!! Normale the one that is bullying the victims friends.

Have you ever thought how mature your child is? After you get to a certain age you start to do different things like, Walking to sport, going out with friends and with those things a phone would be helpful. Anyway if something did happen on social media that they knew wasn’t ok they would tell you because they are reposeful. Don’t you think you child is mature enough to not sit staring at their phone for hours on end? Anyway you could make rules or compromise with your child . By the way they are now mature enough for that. How would you feel if you didn’t have a phone and you were mature for one, or all your friends had one and you didn’t because your parents were too mean to give you one?

Those are my reason about why children over 12 should have a cell phone. They could use it in an emergency, to communicate with you and others and they have shown you that they are responsible. So what do you think they should have a cell phone?

Another one of my hobbies is going down to my Nana and Grandy's and helping them on the farm. They own a dairy farm. My favourite part of going down there is when they are giving the cows medicine.

This weekend the 16/6/19 we went to the farm and helped with changing the tags of the Heifer's, drenching and inoculating. My job was to write down the numbers, if the cows number was 16 and we changed it to 512 I had to write it down. I loved doing the paperwork. I found it really fun. Have you ever been on a farm?

Swimming

Swimming

I have swimming lessons at 4:00 to 5:00 on a Tuesday night. I have been doing swimming lessons for 7 years. At the start of this year I finished Swim school from level 1-10 and I am now in squad. I do swimming lessons at the Recreation Centre in Greymouth. My favourite stroke to do is backstroke I also like doing butterfly kick. My least favourite stroke is breaststroke. Netball is one of my favourite things to do, I play for Star United. My team is Star Untied Junior A. We play our games Saturday mornings at Anzac park, and we have our training's on Wednesdays at Anzac park. My position is WA (Wing Attack).

Welcome Back to school, It's now Term 2!!! :)

Welcome Back to school, It's now Term 2!!!!

Welcome back, it's term 2. There are a lot of fun things happening this term. There is basketball, Production practise, cross country and kapa haka.

Image result for Adventures of superstanThis term we're participating for the production. The play we are doing is the adventures of Superstan. I am playing Mayor Doughnut. I am the Mayor of Megaville, I have 45 lines and for part of the play I have to do a solo.

Also Whea Katie has got any 7 or 8s that do kapa haka to go around the year 1 and 2 class and perform songs and dances which I think would be a good idea.

I am also REALLY REALLY excited for camp. Totara 1 and 2 are going to Hammer Springs camp for 2 nights on the 20 May. We are going swimming in the hot pools, tree climbing, mountain biking and going to the candy shop to by lollies. 
I am so EXCITED and can't want!
