Kia Ora Angelina, This is Patricia here from the Summer Learning Journey team. Well done for making a video of you mihi. However, this task requires you to do a pepeha , not a mihi. The mihi is an acknowledgement whilst the pepeha is the way to introduce yourself in Maori. I know that in the pepeha some information can be a bit tricky to find, such as your waka, you can skip this one. For your tribe you can use your family surname. If you are not sure about something I would recommend you to talk to your parents and ask them to help you out with this specific task. For example, my pepeha would go like that: Ko Fortaleza te maunga ( this is a national park with lots of mountains and waterfalls that I used to go a lot when I was growing up) Ko Guaiba te awa ( this is the river in my home birth city)
Please use the template bellow and just add your information: Ko ________________________ te maunga The mountain that I affiliate* to is…
Ko ________________________ te awa The river that I affiliate to is….
Ko ________________________ te waka The waka that I affiliate to is…
Ko ________________________ tōku tīpuna My founding ancestor is…
Ko ________________________ tōku iwi My tribe is…
Ko ________________________ tōku hapu My sub-tribe is…
Ko ________________________ tōku marae My marae is…
Ko ________________________ ahau I am from…

Ko ________________________ tōku ingoa. My name is …

Ola Angelina!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great video! I like how you spoke clearly and were really confident!
Maybe next time you could write your mihi in the blogpost so we can read it and maybe try and do our own!
Have you enjoyed doing the Summer Learning Journey so far?
What has been your favourite activity?
