PrEP

 PrEP
PrEP is a thing we do at school to learn about money. We make applications,  letters and cvs to apply for a PrEP job. The jobs that you can apply for are advertising agency, The Warehouse, Banker, Police or your own venture. Where you can be CEO, Secretary,  Treasurer, Quality control or a worker. We do PrEP for 2 weeks, and get paid 8 taniwhas (that's what we called our money this year) a day every 2 hours.. We can get a bonus pay but they can also doc pay. We have 2 markets where groups can sale there products. There is mini market where some groups choose to sell and then the big market where everyone sells.

This year my job was working in the Warehouse. We got all of the materials each group needed to make there product. The people who worked in the Warehouse started work 1 week more money then everyone else which means we got payed overtime. I really loved working in the Warehouse getting orders ready for each group. When it came to the last day of PrEP the mini market we got all of our money to spend. I had 144 taniwhas to spend at the market. I brought some string art, lucky dips, a paper Christmas tree, calendar, a plant and a bees wax rap. I found PrEP really fun this year and I will miss it next year.

First for maths this week we had to make our family. We could be married, Single or in a relation ship. Then you could pick if you had kids, pets and you could pick a car that is either diesel or petrol.

I choose to be married with 4 kids. I have 1 dog and have a petrol car.

Then we were randomly give a wage or a salary. I got a salary of $42,000 a year which means I get $807.69 a week. Then we were random given a Tax, Mortgage and Groceries bill. We were then given a fortune card which could give you money or take away money.

We treated each day as a week and after 4 weeks we got Insurance, SKY TV, Vehicle, Phone, Internet and Electricity. After I had payed everything over the 4 weeks (4 days) I am in debt by $315.07.

Explanation on a great learner

 Explanation on a great learner

For writing we have been working on explanation writing. Then we had to writ an explanation on what we think makes a great learner. So hear is my writing.

What makes a great learner?

Definition -  A learner is someone who gains skills or knowledge through practising, studying or being taught. But to be a great learner is someone who is Committed to their learning, there Organised they make sure they have the right equipment at the right place at the right time. Above all they are Persistent they give new things a go and when they fail they try and try again, they never give up.

A great learner is committed to their learning, their studies and their work.  If you're committed to something like your learning  you're willing to make adjustments from where you are learning to how you are learning. For example if you committed to your piece of writing you will finish because you're committed and you want to finish, but if you aren’t committed to the writing you won’t finish the work you won’t care if you finish it. They have to be committed, if they aren’t they won’t finish their work, they won’t listen. They won’t learn.

To be a Great learner you have to be organised for learning. To be organised for learning you have to have the right ejectment, Pens to write down notes, notebooks to write lessons on, so you can look back at it to refresh your memory of what you have learnt before a test.. A chrome or device to write assessments and essays. Another reason why you have to be organised is to make sure you are ready to get to class on time, so you don’t miss any of the learning. For example if you weren’t organise you could sleep in and have to rush to get ready and get to class, but you just miss the class and now you won’t know what you missed, then in a test about that thing you were supposed to learn in that class but you missed that class, so you fail the test.

Now one of the most important things about being a great learner is being persistent. Yes persistent, giving everything a go even if it is new, and if you fail you try again and again until you learn that new thing. This is an important attribute for a great learner. If a great learner wasn’t persistent they wouldn’t be a great learner and wouldn’t achieve much. Imagine if the Wright brothers were not persistent and gave up when the first Air plane they made didn’t work, if they had, we wouldn’t have air planes around today.

In conclusion I think the 3 most important traits you have to have to be a great learner is being committed to your learning, to be organised and above all being persistent never giving up even when it seems you should give up.

Green puppy born in Italy with 4 slings with white fur

 Green puppy born in Italy

Cristian Mallocci a sheep farmer might be expect an occasional black sheep amongst his flock. But how surprised he was when earlier this month, the Mallocci's dog, Spelacchia gave birth to a litter of five pups four of them with white fur just like there mixed breed mother. The other pup wad covered with green fur giving him the name Pistacchio. While the other 4 pups are up for adoption on the Italian island of Sardinia. Pistacchio is staying with the Mallocci family.

The farmer told CNN: "We are keeping him, he arrived in a dark time but he will bring luck!"

Though rear green puppy's are born there was white German Shepherd in North Carolina who gave birth to an unusually coloured pup in January, whose owners later named him Hulk.

I think this is amazing because it is so rare and they are viewing that he will bring luck in suck a dark time.

Current events, Question 6

Current events, Question 6

Current events is a thing we do each week. We go into group and answer question about things in the news from around the world. The we pick one of the questions and write a blog post about that question.

What caused the middle lanes of the Auckland Harbour Bridge to close at the start of the holidays?

a. it was damaged when a truck flipped over in strong winds

b. a minor earthquake caused damage to the road surface

c. a bus hit an oil tanker causing it to leak oil on the road

Answer A - It was damaged when a truck flipped over in strong winds. A new permanent strut has been crafted in Whangārei to replace the temporary fixture reinforcing the structure, after it was badly damaged on September 18.

Tuesday morning saw the Auckland Harbour Bridge close completely to motorists for about an hour as wind gusts reached 98 kilometres per hour. Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency has warned that further lane closures are possible if severe gusts continue. It comes after the bridge was severely damaged on September 18 when a “freak’ gust of wind blew a truck into the bridge.

Next week my class is going on camp to mistletoe bay. So this week our tasks revolve around that. For this task we had to make a trail from our school to Mistletoe bay. Then pick 3 places we will go though on the way there and put a photo of that place and a fact. We also had to find the distant from start to finish, it was 269km from Grey Main to Mistletoe bay in a straight line.

Going down to my Nana and Granddad's farm - Hobbies

Going down to my Nana and Granddad's farm - Hobbies

One of my other hobbies is going down to my Nana and Granddad's on a long weekend or school holidays. My favourite thing to do there is feed the calves. Right now it is calving seasons. They have 500 milking cows so that is around 500 calves. To feed the calves we wake up early and milk the cows who have had there calves. Then we take some of that milk and put in a sport of trough with pink teas of the ends so the calves can sucks on them to get to milk. The hardest part is teaching the new calves to drink the milk. You have to put your fingers in there mouth and guide them to the trough. I can't wait until the holidays so we can go down there.

Netball

Netball

One of my favourite hobbies is netball. This year I was on the Paroa Junior A netball team. We were very successful and won all of our games then won first in our grade, which was a first for me. In netball I play GK or GD but I prefer GK. This year I was very lucky and also made it onto the school ASB netball netball team. We first won Grey District then went on to win West Coast.

Left out - Narrative Writing

Left out - Narrative Writing

For the past 2 weeks we have been working on narrative writing. For this writing you need a charter that went on a journey and in the end they would have learnt something. I choose a girl how would let other kids play with her and her friends. Then one day she is the one who gets left out.

Left out

On Monday the 2nd of April a 13 year old girl named Alyssa Williams woke to the shining of the sun on her face coming in from the crack where the 2 curtains meet each other. Alyssa was a very tall person with brown wavy hair going just past her shoulders. Slightly tanned skin and crystal clear blue eyes like the waves of the never ending sea. She got out of her warm bed and felt the cold fresh morning air hit her face. She walked to the mirror and started brushing her hair. She then walked down stairs into the dining room where her Dad was sitting on the end chair on the table reading the daily newspaper. Her mum was baking in the kitchen and handed her a plate of four light and puffy pancakes as golden and the sand on a beach. They were neatly stacked up on top of each other with a few cut up strawberries placed neatly on top. Alyssa smiled.

One hour later when she was dressed for school she got into her Mum’s small red car, and her Mum drove her to school. Then she walked to her class room where her friends were waiting. There were three, Emma, Oliva, and Hannah. Emma was an average height girl with long straight blond hair reaching down to her mid back, she also had blue eyes like Alyssa but a darker shade of blue. Olivia was the same height and had the same hair style as Emma but only her hair was brown with lighter brown tips, and she had emerald green eyes that sparked when the sun hit them. Hannah was a short girl with dark brown hair reaching just past her shoulders, she also had a fringe and dark brown eye that looked like creamy melted chocolate.

The day was wheezing by. It was already 1pm, lunch time. Alyssa and her friends were playing netball on the court. When Sophie, a short, skinny, red headed, freckled girl comes up to them. They all stop instantly and come over to each other forming a line. Sophie in a shy quiet voice says “Could I please play with you”. Alyssa starts laughing out loud “ You think WE would let YOU play with us haha, your dumber then I thought”. Sophie bursts into tears and runs away. Alyssa friends just stand there while Alyssa laughs and says “Come on guys lets got hang out on the field”

The next day when Alyssa wakes up the next day she smiles, completely forgetting about what happened with Sophie. She got up and got ready for school. When she got there she walked over to her friends like normal but they were acting a bit weird. Alyssa didn’t think anything about it, but at lunchtime after she had gone to the bathroom she walked over to the court where she thought her friends would be waiting. They were but with someone new. It was Sophie. When Alyssa got to they she said “ What are you guys doing talking to the dumb dumb”. “We don’t like the way you have been treating people lately” Said Emma “What have I done” Alyssa said in the most innocent voice. “ You have been mean about how people look” Hannah said. “ Yeah and not letting them play with us. So today you are being excluded” Olivia finished. Then all three of them pointed away from them, while Sophie was hiding behind them. “You can’t do this” “We just did Alyssa”.

Alyssa sadly walked away and sat down in the shade.. The concrete was cold on her bare legs and suddenly they day didn’t look so bright. The cold wind blowing in her face. She thought about all the times she had been mean to people and found it funny but now she didn’t like it because she was one getting hurt. She watched as her friends played with Sophie and felt so bad a teardrop rolled down her cheek. She was glad when school was over. She went home and lied on her bed. She realised she had to apologise to everyone she had hurt, first thing tomorrow morning. So she grabbed a notebook and wrote down all the names. But that night she couldn’t sleep, she kept tossing and turning in her sheets waiting for the sun to come up.

As soon as it did she got dressed and had breakfast. Today she decided to walk to school, it was only 10 minutes away. When she got there she stated on her list by the time the bell rang for the start on the school day she had finished the list, except for her friends and Sophie. So at lunch time she approached them on the court where they were playing netball. “What do you want” Olivia said when her eyes caught sight of Alyssa slowly and nervously walking towards them. “ Um uh” Alyssa said “Spit it out” Hannah yelled.

Alyssa took a big breath in and said “I just wanted to say I am so so so sorry for the way that I have been acting lately. I'm sorry that you guys had to put up with it, and I am thankful that you guys told me how I have been acting. It was a wake up call. Sophie I am really sorry for being mean to you yesterday, it probably took a lot of courage for you to ask us if you could play with us yesterday, I’m sorry. I understand if none of you want to play with me again, I get it. But I am trying to be nicer. “Of course you can play with us we just wanted you to be nicer to other people '' Emma said softly. Alyssa grew a big smile that stretched across her entire face. From that day on Alyssa and her friends which now inclined Shopie let anyone play with and they had big games of tag and netball. They never left anyone out again.

Parachute - Science Experiment

 Parachute - Science Experiment

Another science experiment we did in science was making a parachute out of a plastic bag and sting. Then we dropped them from top of the big fort with a peg of the bottom. My group deiced to cut our bag into a hexagon shape. Our parachute whet down pretty slowly but was not the slowest. It was fun, but if I did it again I would make my shape a rectangle and make the strings longer.

For one of our science experiments we did a experiment called spinning water. It is were you make 2 holes in a cup opposite each other and thread a peace of string though them then tie it at the top so you can hold the string like a handle. Then fill the cup with water and then spin it around in a circle.

Information Report Northland

Information Report Northland

For writing the last 2 weeks we have been working on information reports. For this activity we first had to choose a region in New Zealand then research about it. We had to find information about history, landmarks and attractions. Here is my information report -

Northland

Northland is thought to be the first part of New Zealand to be discovered and walked upon by the early Māori settlers. Later European settlers began to arrive and colonise the land. A treaty between the Māori and the Europeans was signed some years later in Waitangi, and Northland became known as the 'birthplace of a nation'. Approximately 1,000 years ago, the legendary Māori explorer, Kupe discovered New Zealand. It is claimed that the first landfall of Kupe's waka was on the shores of the Hokianga Harbour. In 1769 Captain Cook discovered New Zealand. Once news of the discovery reached Britain, traders, whalers and sealers began to arrive.

A warmer climate than the rest of New Zealand provides a hospitable environment for flora and fauna. The region is 85 kilometres across at its widest point, and 7.5 kilometres at its narrowest.Flat land is rare, and found mainly in narrow river valleys and coastal areas. The main upland areas are the Maungataniwha, Tūtāmoe and Waimā ranges, with the highest point around 780 metres above sea level.

Many places in Northland hold historic significance. The birthplace of New Zealand, Waitangi is home to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds where the Treaty of Waitangi was first signed in 1840. Opo the dolphin statue, Opo was a bottlenose dolphin who became famous throughout New Zealand during the summer of 1955/56 for playing with the children of the small town of Opononi on the Hokianga harbour.Opo was a wild dolphin that started following fishing boats around Opononi in early 1955. She was or iginally named "Opononi Jack", based on Pelorus Jack, since she was presumed to be male. Unlike the majority of dolphins, she had no qualms about human company, and would perform stunts for locals, play with objects like beach balls and beer bottles, and allow children to swim alongside her and make contact. Kandiah Alpacas and farmstay. Kandiah Alpacas and Farmstay is owned by Pav and Mark Stacey. Their farm is situated just 10 minutes from the wonderful small township of Waipu in Northland New Zealand. We have a wonderful herd of mixed colour suri alpacas. Suri alpacas have a beautiful soft, lustrous fleece.

Perfect Paragraph

This week for writing we had to write a paragraph about A country I would like to visit, A gift you would like to receive, A skill you would like to master, A movie you have enjoyed. I choose to to do a country I would like to visit.
Here is what I wrote -

If I could got to any country in the world, I would go to Mexico. I would go to Mexico because they play loud music you can dance to, I would love to dance around in the sun all day long. They also have delicious food including my favourite, nachos. Mexico is also so bright and colour, it makes you smile just to be there. Music, dancing, food and bright colour are the reason why I want to go to Mexico.

Tomb Writing

Tomb writing

For writing this week we were given a picture then had to write a story around the photo. We could write a descriptive story, a report or we could use our imagination. I deiced to write a story using my imagination. Here is the photo we had to use any my story -

I wake up feeling hot and sticking. I open my eyes and sit straight up. I see only dry, hot, golden sand. I can't remember how I had gotten there, I checked my watch. It is 11:37 on the 28th of May 1967. I don’t remember anything about the last two days. I start to panic. I'm confused, angry and scared. Was my memory erased or have I been lying here for days? These are questions racing through my head. I hear something then I realise it is my stomach growling for food like a lion who has been starved for days. My throat is dry, I have never been so thirsty in my life. I turn around hoping to see some sign of life. But I only see a weird shaped stone structure. Somehow I knew what it was, it was tomb. I don’t know why but I found myself walking towards it. There are symbols all over the structure except for the handle which was made from bone, rope and stone.

I open the door and the loud sound of the creek fills my ears. Dust rushes from the open door, like a flood of water gushing out of a broken pipe. I walk inside with no feeling of worry. It’s the first time sense I have woken up that I feeling like everything will be alright. Shamsh!! The door slams behind me, I start to panic again. I run towards the door but it won’t open or even move, it’s like magic. In the tomb it’s dark, dusty and hard to breath, I keep coughing. The only light there is,is the light beaming from the crack in the stone door, In the tomb all I see is a long stone corridor with symbols filling the wall. I find myself walking down it. I turn at the corner and there is a stone coffin with a single letter on the top. M.

I had another overwhelming feeling like I had when I walked towards the tomb. The feeling took over my entire body. I couldn't stop myself from opening the coffin. It was hard and heavy, the lid of the coffin. I never thought any one human could possibly move it but somehow, I did. I couldn't see what was in the coffin other than an outline of the person's body. The feeling was gone, I was free, I could control my own body again. I ran and fell to the ground. I had run into a stone wall. My head was bleeding now.

The way I had come in was gone, I was stuck in a stone cold, square room filled with dust struggling to breath. I was too busy trying to stop the blood dripping down my face, while I was on ground to realize something was wrong, but then I did. I walked back over to the coffin but there was nothing in it, anymore. I hear a sound from behind me, I turn around and the black outline of the figure that was in the coffin was coming towards me, but not like they were walking, like they were gliding. I screamed louder then I have ever in my entire life, but that was the moment I realized my life was over...

What's in the news this week?

What was unusual sight did Waikato residents see in the Piako river 10km inland? A Pod of dolphins

The pod of dolphins seen cruising kilometres up a Waikato river were likely following their stomachs.
The behaviour of the estimated 60 dolphins surprised the bystanders and scientists, who say their actions highlighted how much there was still to learn about the marine mammals.
On Monday, the dolphins - some around 2.5m long - made their way from the Firth of Thames up the Piako River and were spotted in Ngatea, an inland swim of 12km.
Niwa marine mammal scientist Dr Krista Hupman said telling by the shape of the dolphins' fins, they appeared to be either bottlenose or common dolphins, though both species swimming in an pod together is extremely rare.

I think this really interesting, and I wish I was there when it happened. This just proves that we don't know everything about every thing. There are still things we haven't discovered.

Riddle's

Riddle's

Toady we had a 3 part riddle. At the end of the riddle we would
find our mystery theme. The first part of the riddle we had any envelop filled with rectangle pieces. We had to use these because to make 3 separate puzzles. A hippo, boat and a symbol. When we had finished that we had to unscramble 8 words then we had to find the unscramble words in a word search. Then we did a bunch of maths questions every time we got a question right we got a letter. After that we got a picture of a country, so we had to use the unscramble word we got from the maths question to find out what the country on the map was. The answer was ancient Egypt.

Object writing number 1

Object writing

For writing this week we are writing object poems. For the poem we had to pick a everyday object and decide it without using the word of what we are describing. So if you were describing a fork you wouldn't use the word fork. Can you guess what my object is?

Object Writing -
Hard card covering the precious pages between, protecting them from any danger.
Thin whitish brown delicate pieces of a tree, hiding in between the covers like children hiding in their bed scared of the storm outside.
Black writing, telling the story, pulling you away from reality like a whirlpool in the middle of the ocean sucking a boat into it’s centre.
Thick spine firmly holding the whole story together, without it the story is just a bunch of jumbled words upon a page.

Autumn Writing

Autumn Writing

As it is Autumn for writing we are writing what Autumn looks like for us. Here is my writing -

As my eyes open, I feel a shiver down my spine the day has begun and there is a chill in the air. I know that summer is over. I sit up and listen to the rustling of the trees in the wind. I get dressed and ready for a cold day. For the morning meal I have jam toast and a milo. There’s an angry rage of light in the corner of the room warming up the whole house.

I step outside, the sun is shining down on me but there's no warmth from it. My hair is blowing everywhere like an angry bull bucking everywhere trying to get it’s rider to fall off. As I walk forward a crunching sound comes from under foot, the firey colours of the delicate nature landing on my head and surrounding me. A gust of salty air pushing me forward and flowing into my nostrils.

I walked back into the house “How was your walk?” Mum asks. “It was amazing and so beautiful the glistening drops on trees, making the world look like a wonderland. Very windy though” I sit down at the table taking off my gloves and scarf. A warm feeling flowing through my body. The taste of the hot and creamy pumpkin soup running down my throat, heating up my entire body. So joyful, so peaceful that is how I am feeling.

Day Of The Dead Skeleton Pizza

Day Of The Dead Skeleton Pizza

For my creative task for reading we had to make a skeleton pizza because we have been working on the Day of the Dead.
Steps -
Step 1 - Get your pizza base and place it on a tray with baking paper under the pizza base and cut the sides of to get a skeleton shape.
Step 2 - Spread your pasta sauce (or tomato paste) all around your pizza base.
Step 3 - Add cheese now so you don't cover up the designs.
Step 4 - Make you eyes. I use red onions with a olive in the middle then I put a ring of capsicum around the eye then placed some olives.
Step 5- Do your nose and mouth. For the nose on my pizza I used 3 olives. For the mouth I used half a ring of red onions.
Step 6- Decorate the rest of your pizza with whatever you like.
Step 7 - Bake and eat!

I loved doing this. If I were to do it again I would use sour cream or cream cheese for the middle of the eyes. I kind of like the olives but would use something else.
Who knows of anything that is black I could use on a pizza other the olives?

Decorated house for Anzac day

Decorated house for Anzac day

I decorated my house for Anzac day and here is how it turned out.

My Special place - Sunset

My Special Place

For writing this week we had to write about our special place, a place where we were happy or clam.
I wrote about the beach here is my writing.

Sun set

I watch as the sun goes down, the red, yellow and orange colours of the sky disappearing as the night sky comes.  The red yellow and orange tones of the sky fading into the darkness of night. The big green leaves of the palm tree sway in the wind, like a dancer on stage. The deep blue waves slowly advancing in from the sea. The golden sand shines in the remaining sunlight.

As I walk, I feel the warm soft sand between my toes.  The fresh spring wind touches my face and is joined by the gentle splash of salt water spray, each time a wave crashes on the rocks. The last rays of the sun warm me.

I hear the waves as they crash down on the shore while the wind whispers  in my ear.  Above me echoes the squawk of seagulls as they glide above the ocean while behind me leaves rustle in the wind.
I feel so happy here, free like a bird soaring through white fluffy clouds. I can be relaxed here but also energised. I love this feeling. It is the best feeling in the world.
